I worked on this piece on and off for three years, adding, scraping back, building up layers, layering different imagery, visual languages and slogans. However it wasn’t until I included one of my machine-like characters and the foreground nature that finally I was able to resolve this work. The power of unity, never giving up, leaving fears behind are several of the messages on this faded, battered “wall”. A locust, usually a solitary insect, in certain circumstances unites with others in large groups, making them more gregarious reminding us of the impact we all have on one another. The locust, so different from his machine-like companion are also intended to remind us that it is only through our differences a perfect whole can be created.
