This piece is about “leaving your thoughts behind so they can not beat you down”, a beautiful lyric I picked up from the mesmeric music of SailorandI (@sailorandi) I’ve wanted to do a painting based on this lyric for an age not least because sometimes my own thoughts can “beat me down” to the point of incessant insomnia which in turn creates utter emotional and physical exhaustion. This lyric resonated with me to such an extent because I know it’s something I need to master. Using some of the many characters I’ve created from collage, over the lockdown months, excitingly how I could communicate this lyric started to emerge. A regal figure is seen striding confidently away from several ghostly, tortured souls, riddled with anxiety and fear. Thankfully they’re fading. On the verge of being snuffed out.
