I started this painting pre-Covid in what now seems and feels like a very distant, different world. Inspired by Regent’s Canal in London this painting is about the restorative, rejuvenating, undiscriminating qualities nature offers us all. Regardless of whether the trials and tribulations life throws in our path are on an individual or collective level, whether they’re mental or physical, nature always triumphs in it’s ability to feed, heal and nourish our souls. A residue of grime can be seen to have settled on all surfaces. A tinge of pinky, grey pollution fills the sky. A solitary, awkward, whacky looking, goggle eyed misfit of a character (my altar ego?) walks towards us under the bridge. Despite being isolated from human interaction the large eyes of this character suck up the fullness of nature around, filling the very essence of his being, nourishing his soul with a “high on life’ energy.
