CHARACTERIZATION – These works came into life during the first lockdown when, working from home, I sought to use materials found around the house. And so begun my love affair with collage. Constantly drawn to images of machines and machine parts I’d cut these out, deconstruct and reassemble them into weird, whacky characters. These characters so often seem to have a futuristic, otherworldly appearance whilst simultaneously being oddly familiar. And whilst they evidently echo notions of man as machine it is their non-conformity to any pre-existing stereotypes that captivates me.
