Imagine you’re walking down the road and you see a large apartment block being pulled to the ground. As you look up at this thirty-floor high building the cube like rooms reveal patterns of all sorts; tilework, brickwork, wallpaper, smashed windows and doors, light fixtures all of which are now exposed to the elements, acting as reminders of people’s lives that once were.
The works in this gallery are small sections, rendered life size, of surfaces I found in abandoned crumbling buildings like the one described above. With these works through their decayed surfaces I wanted, in particular, to speak of life’s fragility, the fine line between life and death and in so doing to remind us to seize the moment, to be present in the “is” of life and to “dance on tables” whenever the opportunity arises.
